Trout Responses to Stocking Rates and River Discharge within a Southeastern U.S. Hydropeaking Tailwater

چکیده

Freshwater fish populations often exist in systems characterized by novel ecological processes resulting from human alteration. Salmonid embedded within coldwater sections of warmwater rivers are spatially constrained habitat availability. Tailwater contend with fluctuating river discharges and density-dependent associated stocking exploitation. sustained through versus natural reproduction may respond differently to changes hydrologic patterns (e.g., hydropeaking) as well declines abundance. We assessed differences between stocked (Rainbow Trout Oncorhynchus mykiss) naturalized (Brown Salmo trutta) trout Greers Ferry tailwater, Arkansas, regarding (1) spatial temporal mean length, electrofishing catch rates, relative condition following reduced number Rainbow (2) evidence that characteristics intensity influenced condition. A 56% reduction did not result systemwide change length or abundance for Brown over the 16-year study period. Hydrologic variability, where discharge spanned both elevated levels, positively Trout. Assessment survival aid further refining timing amount needed sustain population at a desired Further, assessing influence fewer but perhaps larger (in terms length) meet management goals be warranted. The persistent among can inform actions directed Trout, including harvest regulations. Such regulations reaching goals, targets observed after stocking.

Movement and Survival of Brown Trout and Rainbow Trout in an Ozark Tailwater River

We evaluated the movement of adult brown trout Salmo trutta and rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss in relation to a catch-andrelease area in the White River downstream from Beaver Dam, Arkansas. Nine fish of each species were implanted with radio transmitters and monitored from July 1996 to July 1997. The 1.5km river length of a catch-and-release area (closed to angler harvest) was greater than ...

Responses of growth rates and growth hormone levels of African catfish (Clarias gariepinus) to stocking density

In order to estimate responses of growth rate and growth hormone of Clarias gariepinus to stocking density, fish (initial weight 30.71 ± 0.89 g) were stocked in 120-L tanks at densities of 35, 65, 95, and 125 kg/m3 for 60 days. On day 30 and 60, the fish growth rates were measured, pituitary growth hormone (GH) mRNA levels and serum GH concentrations were examined by real-time qPCR and ELISA te...
